About Kyokushinkai Karate
Kyokushin is rooted in a philosophy of self-improvement and aims to attain the ideal of truth and perfection through discipline and hard physical training.
Due to its full-contact approach, the style has had international appeal over the last 40+ years, with numbers reaching more than 12 million active practitioners. Today, the definition of karate comes from a combination of two characters: Kara, – empty, and Te, – hand, thus bringing the meaning of “empty hand”.
Kyokushin Karate has influenced many “full-contact” karate schools, emphasising realistic combat, physical toughness, and practicality in its training curriculum. Many other martial arts organisations have “spun off” from Kyokushin over the years, with some adding additional techniques, such as grappling, head punches, etc, but continuing with the same philosophy of realistic and practical training methods.
Uchi Deshi
In 2024, World Kyokushin Kaikan Australia (WKK Australia) will bring a unique opportunity to become one of the first WKK Australia Uchi Deshi to enrol in this rigorous program in Far North Queensland. Our Uchi Deshi program builds one’s character by unleashing your inner & physical strength, forging an iron spirit, and tempering self-discipline through modern sports science, traditional Kyokushin Karate training and Ancient Okinawan Kobudo.
With the Never-ever-give spirit, the Japanese term Uchi Deshi translates to English as a “live-in student” or “inside” In Australia, it can be referred to as an apprentice. The intense training is not limited to the dojo but also outside. With Cairns nestled along the coastline of the Great Barrier Reef and abundant rainforests, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to train within some of Australia’s most breathtaking environments and with one of Australia’s top international fighters and instructors.
This intensive training program ranges from three months to three years. Only through a selection criterion can one become an Uchi Deshi due to the meticulous commitment needed. Once enrolled as an Uchi Deshi, the strongest heart and determination are required, being able to listen and show respect whilst following along the ever-learning Budo path.
If you feel this is your path as a true karateka, please email your interest to Shihan Jason Crimmin, as applications are limited.
Yamane Ryu Kobudo
Yamane-ryu is a dynamic form of Kobudo that employs very swift but powerful circular motions; with its unique distinct pattern of twisting thrusts, body mechanics and pliable footwork, it became widely known as the strongest kobudo.
Due to a ban on military weapons in Okinawa, many Okinawan farmers and civilians sought out ordinary agricultural implements for their self-defence. They are now recognised as specialist fighting tools; these weapons came from your everyday items. Yamane Ryu Kobudo, referred to as the mountain-style weapon art, stems from Samukawa village, Okinawa, where it was developed in the late 1800s by Chinnen Sanda (1846 to 1928), also known as Yamane no Chinnen. It has been passed down through Oshiro Chojo to Kinjo Hiroshi Patrick McCarthy to Bill Johansen and finally taught to Jason Crimmin at the famous Brisbane Koryukan, where it is now taught in Cairns, Far North Queensland.
The Traditional weapons that are taught are:
Bo – 6ft tapered staff.
Eiku – Boat Oar.
Sai – Three-pronged metal truncheon.
Kama – Farming sickle.
Tekko – Horses shoe/stirrup.
Tinbe & Rochin – Shield and spear.
Nunchaku – Horse’s Bit.
Tonfa – Police side-handle baton.
Regardless of what you are looking for, be it a martial art with real life application, with a strong history, a ‘family’ atmosphere, discipline, fitness or a myriad of other reasons, we have something to offer you. Click on one of the programs below to view more information.
